Christmas Art Walk on Flagler is Saturday

Ho! Ho! Ho! This Saturday’s “Christmas Celebration” Art Walk on Flagler Avenue will be the perfect place to take a relaxing stroll and do some last minute holiday shopping from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., while avoiding the traffic and the crowds at the malls.

There is nothing better than taking a stroll along Flagler Avenue, the delightful five-block area between the Indian River and the ocean that has so many quaint, quirky, and charming shops to visit. The popular monthly event showcases painting, jewelry, ceramics, decorative art, glassblowing demonstrations, sculpture, fabric arts, pottery demonstrations and more.

Visitors can watch glass "sea-creature" ornaments being created at Galleria di Vetro during this Saturday's (Dec. 19) Art Walk.

Presented by the Gallery Group of Flagler Avenue, there will also be entertainment and a special prize drawing. There will be something for everyone, including several visiting artists who will be set up under canopies along the avenue; such as photographers Buddy Hatcher and Alan Craddock, painters and mixed media artists Robert Spellman, Panther’s Gallery, and Robert and Kathleen Brown, silversmith Barbara Sorenson, jewelry maker Renee Carsto, and creative tile artist Scott Luedke.

Remember to pick up an Art Walk program wherever you see the blue and black flags with the white “gg” logo and be sure to get it punched at each of the sponsoring galleries for a chance to win this month’s free prize drawing, a Gorham Cake Service by Treasures, donated by Ta Da Gallery, 113 Flagler Ave., which will also offer wine and cheese from 3-5 p.m.

Other sponsoring galleries are Jewelry of Joy, 301 Flagler; Galleria di Vetro, 310 Flagler; and Palms Up Pottery, 413 Flagler.

DJ Dennis will be playing everyone’s favorite holiday music at the gazebo at Flagler and Pine, and making announcements throughout the day.

There will be live glassworking and flameworking demonstrations presented at Galleria di Vetro. Visitors can watch glass artists Kyle Carni and Jason Lott create unique jellyfish and seahorse ornaments, and Nicole Carni will be introducing her new line of hostess glassware.

Jazz Musician Richard Young will entertain at Galleria from 12-4 p.m. and his music will be available for purchase. Galleria will be offering “Door-buster” prizes ever hour starting at noon and will also offer cookies and punch for the kids and wine and cheese for the adults from 3-5 p.m.

Art Walk is great way to get in the holiday spirit, and the charming beachside street is the perfect place to find unique last-minute Christmas gifts. The street also boasts a variety of dining options to suit every taste and budget.

“Christmas Village” Art Walk – Let the shopping begin…

Serious holiday shopping traditionally starts in November. Are you looking for that perfect holiday gift for family, friends or co-workers? Then be sure to visit Art Walk on historic Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28.

Skip the traffic and crowds at the mall and take a stroll along Flagler Avenue, the charming and quaint five-blocks between the Indian River and the ocean. There will something for everyone. Browsers and shoppers will be able to find unique and one-of-a-kind gifts for all ages and to fit every budget. In addition to the art galleries that represent more than 100 artists, there will be several visiting artists who will be set up under canopies along the avenue.

The Gallery Group is seeking professional artists in any medium to display their art from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. the fourth Saturday of the month during Art Walk on Flagler Avenue, New Smyrna Beach. Upcoming themes are: December, “Christmas Celebration” (held one week earlier, Dec. 19, due to the holiday); Jan. 23, 2010, “Black and White”; and Feb. 27, “Culinary Arts.”

Each month the Group judges the work of the visiting artists on the street, and presents cash prizes along with corresponding ribbons at the end of the day.

“All That Jazz” Art Walk & NSB Jazz Festival

“All That Jazz” Art Walk on Flagler Avenue will be held in conjunction with the 9th annual New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Visit Art Walk and take a fascinating stroll along Flagler Avenue while enjoying the wonderful art on display in galleries, under canopies, on porches and in courtyards. The popular event features painting, jewelry, ceramics, glass blowing, sculpture, fabric arts and more; free children’s activity, entertainment and a special prize drawing; presented by the Gallery Group of Flagler Avenue.

DJ Dennis will be playing jazz tunes and making announcements at the gazebo at Flagler Avenue and Pine Street. There will also be a bidding table at the gazebo for some wonderful “surfboard” art. The one-foot by eight-foot wooden “artistic surfboards” by artists Stephanie Hill, Paulette Capwell, Troy Holloway, Terry Webb, Sue Brown and Kathy Mills will be on display and available for bidding.

And if that’s not enough – there will be music emanating from indoor venues up and down the avenue, courtesy of the 9th Annual New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival. It’s all free and in walking distance along the five fabulous blocks between the Indian River and the ocean on New Smyrna’s Flagler Avenue.

Second place award of $75 went to Robert and Kathleen Brown from Apopka for an acrylic Florida sign, titled “Just Another Day in Paradise.”

Third place award of $50 went to William Fenton from Orlando for a photograph of a sunset near a dock, titled “Peaceful Images Sunset.”

Celebrate “Christmas in July” at Art Walk

This will be a perfect time for art lovers to get a jump on their holiday shopping. It will be a festive day to take a fascinating stroll along Flagler Avenue while enjoying the wonderful art on display in galleries, under canopies, on porches and in courtyards.

Visitors will have the opportunity to commission an artist to create a unique work of art or to find that perfect gift for someone special. The popular event features painting, jewelry, ceramics, glass blowing, sculpture, fabric arts, entertainment, refreshments at several galleries, and a special prize drawing, presented by the Gallery Group of Flagler Avenue.

Sponsoring galleries are Galleria di Vetro, 310 Flagler; Jewelry of Joy, 307 Flagler; Palms Up Pottery, 413 Flagler; and Ta Da Gallery, 113 Flagler.

Many of the galleries and merchants along the avenue will be serving holiday candy and cookies and will be decorated for “Christmas” in July, so be sure and stop by.

The Gallery Group is issuing a “call for artists” for upcoming Art Walks. Visiting artists’ works are judged on “originality, skill, workmanship and uniqueness” each month. Prizes include ribbons and cash awards: first place, $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50.

Special “Martini” Art Walk

Note: Art Walk is being held the second Saturday this month, not the fourth Saturday. Art Walk returns to the fourth Saturday for July–November and will be held on the third Saturday in December (Dec. 19, due to Christmas).

SPECIAL ‘MARTINI’ ART WALK ON FLAGLER AVENUE

A special “Martini Art Walk” will be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, June 13 on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.  Plan to visit historic Flagler Avenue and take a fascinating stroll along the avenue while enjoying the wide variety of art works featured inside galleries, as well as works by visiting artists set up under canopies along the avenue.

And this month, courtesy of the sponsoring galleries and avenue restaurants and lounges, there will be a special “Martini Art Walk ” in the afternoon. Tickets, $10, can be purchased at the tent next to the Gazebo at Flagler Avenue and Pine Street and will entitle holders to taste different flavored martinis at 11 locations on the avenue. There will be two different martinis available for tasting at each venue and virgin martinis will be available at Palms Up Pottery – 22 different martinis to choose from.

Art Walk on Flagler – Recycled Art April 25

April has arrived – and with it, Earth Month, and a busy schedule of environmental activities. April 18 is World Heritage Day, an international event promoting the conservation of cultural sites and monuments. Earth Day, April 22 is a great day to remember the four R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Restore). Friday, April 24 is Arbor Day, and Saturday, April 25 the “Recycled Art Walk” will be held on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach. “Recycled” art from Steve Hardock’s students at Coronado Beach Elementary School will be featured in one tent on the avenue. The public is invited to view these works by future artists.
The Atlantic Center for the Arts Volunteer League will man a table and children will be shown how to make art with recycled materials. ACA will also offer information about their community programming.
The Citizens Resource Group on Recycling will be on hand to present information about recycling in our community and what you can specifically do to help our environment – “Think Globally, Act Locally.”

It’s going to be a Jazzy Art Walk

Plein Air Art Walk on Flagler Avenue

The June 28th Art Walk on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach is going to be a very special occasion. In addition to all the wonderful art on display in galleries, visitors will get to see plein air artists in action.

From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., several Central Florida plein air painters will be working under canopies, on porches and in courtyards on the avenue. Plein air translates as “open air” and describes paintings that have been created outdoors, rather than in a studio.

Some of the artists painting will include: Diane DeShong Cannon, Christophe Cardot, Stephanie Hill, Jamie Furqueron, Kim Kaiser, Barb Moninari, John Rook, Yvonne Siewell, William Stilson, Ginny Ungwitter and Terry Webb.

And that’s not all there will be to enjoy! DJ Dennis will be set up at the gazebo at Flagler and Pine, playing a variety of tunes, Vicki Lilyfors will be doing face and body painting in front of the Cloisters, a free children’s activity will be offered at Artwood Forest and several galleries will feature refreshments from 3-5 p.m.

Presented by the Gallery Group of Flagler Avenue, Art Walk visitors are invited to go on an art quest by visiting the six sponsoring galleries for a chance to win this month’s free punch drawing prize, sterling silver earrings, donated by Beachsyde Jewelers, 415 Flagler Ave. Other sponsoring galleries are: Anthony Bell Creations, 316 Flagler Ave. Jewelry of Joy, 307 Flagler, Galleria di Vetro, 310 Flagler; Ta Da Gallery, 113 Flagler and Palms Up Pottery, 413 Flagler.

It’s all free and in walking distance along the Flagler Avenue, the five fabulous blocks between the river and the ocean in New Smyrna Beach.

The Gallery Group is now judging works by the visiting artists on “originality, skill, workmanship and uniqueness.” Prizes include ribbons and cash awards: first place, $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50.

Congratulations to Marilyn White won first place winner in May for an acrylic painting.
