There’s still time to get your IMAGES Tour of Homes tickets

It is not too late to get your tickets for the Saturday, Dec. 5th IMAGES Tour of Homes, presented by Atlantic Center for the Arts. The tour benefits IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts, which will be held Jan 30 & 31 in downtown New Smyrna Beach.
The IMAGES Tour of Homes will present six unique and fascinating homes festively decorated for the holidays, and a fantastic boutique featuring handmade gift items, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. this Saturday.
Featured homes will include:
·        The incredible Tuscan-style country home of restaurant owners Jeffrey and Paige Gehris on Canova Drive
·        The early 1900s “Florida Bungalow” home of Grace Realty owner Melissa Latty on North Peninsula Avenue
·        The artistic home and pottery studio of artists Christian and Jennifer Kerr-Marsch on Magnolia Street
·        The elegant and comfortable home of cooking school instructors Ed and Nora Pankonin on Arts Center Avenue.
·        The Turnbull Bay “perfect retirement” home of former Dade County school administrators Russ and Marcine Wheatley on Osprey Cove Drive
·        The beautifully renovated Island-style home of consultant and interior designer Palmer and Diane Wilson on Donlon Drive

The IMAGES Tour Boutique will be held at the Whatmore Commons at Atlantic Center, 1414 Art Center Avenue, and will feature refreshments and fantastic items created by the talented artists from the ACA Volunteer League.

The group has been working hard since last year, meeting each week to create unique gift items and festive hand-made decorations. Items for sale will include hand painted shirts, appliquéd aprons, jewelry, painted table cloths, flowers made from recycled materials, seashell adorned flowerpots and mirrors, decoupage vases, Christmas tree ornaments, adorned wicker baskets, Judi Dold mermaids, Mosquito Mud Pottery tiles created by Jennifer Kerr-Marsch, glass ornaments by Gallery di Vetro and much more.

The Tour also includes a visit to the Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach, which is holding a special holiday production through Dec. 6 of the classic Tony Award-winning “Oliver!”

Flamingo Follies – great art and beautiful weather

Great weather, great art and lots of fun -  that was this year’s Flamingo Follies, sponsored by the City of New Smyrna Beach with assistance from the Merchants of Flagler Avenue.

“Oliver” is a hit with opening night audience

The classic Tony Award winning Oliver! based on Charles Dickens’s Oliver Twist opened at the Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach Friday evening.

This holiday favorite with its sentimental and memorable music, from clamorous ”Food, Glorious Food” , to  the haunting ballad ”Where Is Love?”, plus   ”As Long As He Needs Me,”  and the cheeky ”You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two” won the opening night audience over.

The outstanding cast is directed by John Stenko, and includes Francesco Battagliese, Amy Collins, Paige Elizabeth, Brian Fitzgibbons, Cody Gigold, Ida Haverly, Pat Justin, Linda Kalasydjian, Hunter McGowan, Will Pierce, Mark Plinska, Sydney Rogers, David Sandiago, Violet Stoll and Max Watson. The ensembles -  Adult Ensemble: Zachary Goodrich, Joey Reader, Sara Marsh and Jo Phillipp; Orphans & Thieves: Maria Cruz, Connie Darrisaw, Alicia Davidson, Jackie Dozier, Jaclyn Gilday, Conner Harris, Megan Lawson, Marena Luccero, Dakota Mathewson, Jonah Powers, Gabrielle Reed

Performance continue through Dec. 6.Evening performances are at 7 and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.

“Christmas Village” Art Walk – Let the shopping begin…

Serious holiday shopping traditionally starts in November. Are you looking for that perfect holiday gift for family, friends or co-workers? Then be sure to visit Art Walk on historic Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28.

Skip the traffic and crowds at the mall and take a stroll along Flagler Avenue, the charming and quaint five-blocks between the Indian River and the ocean. There will something for everyone. Browsers and shoppers will be able to find unique and one-of-a-kind gifts for all ages and to fit every budget. In addition to the art galleries that represent more than 100 artists, there will be several visiting artists who will be set up under canopies along the avenue.

The popular monthly event showcases painting, jewelry, ceramics, decorative art, glass blowing, sculpture, fabric arts, pottery demonstrations and much more.

The flameworked boron crystal glass “New Smyrna Beach Sea Turtle” sculpture is a great prize; so remember to get your cards punched at each sponsoring gallery.

Remember to pick up an Art Walk event program wherever you see the blue and black flags with the white “gg” logo and get your program cards punched at each of the sponsoring galleries for a chance to win this month’s free prize from Galleria di Vetro, 310 Flagler Ave., a flameworked boron crystal glass “New Smyrna Beach Sea Turtle” sculpture.

Other sponsoring galleries are Ta Da Gallery, 113 Flagler Ave; Jewelry of Joy, 301 Flagler; and Palms Up Pottery, 413 Flagler.

There will also be entertainment and some galleries will offer wine tasting or refreshments from 3 to 5 p.m. Live glass and flame-working demonstrations in boron crystal glass will be presented Kyle Carni at Galleria di Vetro. Visitors can watch the talented glass artist create unique jellyfish, New Smyrna Beach sea turtles and seahorse Christmas ornaments. Galleria will be giving away door prizes every hour starting at noon.

Rounding out the Art Walk attractions and fun are the many quaint shops, as well as a variety of dining options for every taste and budget.

The Gallery Group is seeking professional artists in any medium to display their art from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. the fourth Saturday of the month during Art Walk on Flagler Avenue, New Smyrna Beach. Upcoming themes are: December, “Christmas Celebration” (held one week earlier, Dec. 19, due to the holiday); Jan. 23, 2010, “Black and White”; and Feb. 27, “Culinary Arts.”

Each month the Group judges the work of the visiting artists on the street, and presents cash prizes along with corresponding ribbons at the end of the day.

Congratulations to October winners:  $100, Barbara Sorenson for her sculpture “Beach Frolic;” $75, Buddy Hatcher for his photograph “Beam of Orange;” and $50, Ed Welch for his pen and ink drawing “September to Remember.”
