Light Up Flagler brightened the night

dsc01381a_9_1.jpg dsc01363_5_1.jpg dsc01335_3_1.jpg dsc01334_2_1.jpg

It was bright, it was festive, and it was lots of fun at the annual Light Up Flagler celebrations held Dec. 7.

There were performances by local church and youth groups and Santa and Mrs. Claus were seen riding up and down Flagler in their sleigh.

Children and adults were treated to snacks and beverages by the participating merchants and took part in a fun karaoke session at the gazebo singing Christmas songs.

Merchants got in the spirit by decorating their building and windows, with NSB Florist winning Best Window and Nejma’s winning Best Building.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

The Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach’s production of Hot Bed Hotel just plain sizzles.

Audiences loved it so much that it sold out and was extended another weekend. If you weren’t lucky enough to get a ticket, you missed a fun romp with a talented cast.

The next production will be How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Performances will be Feb. 29-March 16. Call 423-1246 or visit www.NsbPlayers.org for ticket information.

Thanksgiving – NSB style

alice.jpg lois.jpg mara-and-george.jpgmary.jpg

I intended to post these pictures of the Community Thanksgiving dinner the next day, but life intervened, as it often does.

So, here it is January and I am just now finding the time to post these pictures of a few of the many volunteers who make this wonderful annual event possible.

Thank you Alice, Mara, George, Mary and all of the many, many volunteers, with their helpful smiling faces, who served up a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner in New Smyrna Beach.

Nance Koch – ACA volunteer of the year

Nance Koch (left) Atlantic Center for the Arts Volunteer of the Year, is pictured with Mary McBride, who said of Nance, “She’s everywhere. I doubt we have any committee or function that doesn’t find her either working up front or in the background making sure everything is running smoothly. She is always willing to commit time and energy along with enthusiasm to both ACA’s programs and the League ventures providing artistic talent along with logic and organizational skills.”

Martin Luther King Jr. March

Click on picture to enlarge New Smyrna Beach celebrated the life and hopes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 2008 Freedom March, which made its way to Old Fort Park for the annual memorial program. Marchers gathered in the morning in front of the Black Heritage Museum and made their way with a police escort to Old Fort Park. The NSB Middle School Stingray Band, under the direction of Barry Strum, played during the march and at the beginning of the memorial program. Pastor Adewale Adewumi presided over the program, which included Pastor Robert C. Brown, Alphonso Brown, Chet O’Bannon, and the Bethel Missionary Baptist Praise Team. Bethel’s pastor, L. “Pete” Carter was the very dynamic keynote speaker, who based part of his address on three words from Dr. King – “all,” “here,” and “now.”
