“Early Birds” sign up for 2008 Relay For Life
The Southeast Volusia Unit of the American Cancer Society is well on its way to its goal of 63 teams for the 2008 Relay For Life. Forty-four teams had signed up and paid their registration fee by the end of the “Early Bird Registration” meeting held Oct. 23 at Hidden Lakes Golf Club.
Relay For Life is a community gathering where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people will camp out overnight in Riverside Park April 18, 2008, and take turns walking around a luminaria-lit path in the park to raise money int he fight against cancer.
Relay For Life helps raise awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and patient support.
Relay Chairman Buddy Hughes welcomed those attending and introduced the staff and committee chairs for this year’s event. Co-chair Rachelle Andreano talked about how one person/team can make a difference.
Team Development Chair Tootsie McDonald announced the unit’s 2008 goal of having 63 teams sign up to raise $252,000 at NSB’s “Racing for a Cure” Relay For Life.
